Apologies if this has been done before...

Out and about around for Gorwhil today and was properly confronted by an angry dad with his wife and daughter.

We stopped well before meeting him, stepped aside and waited to let them pass.

Received the full text of the 2 m rule including paragraphs and articles of the law including aggressive behaviour....

Being English, irony, cynicism or sarcasm doesn't work.

What advice to handle this for me and my German partner ?

It doesen`t make sense to argue with those people. Say they are right, wish them a good day and move on. Irony, cynicism or sarcasm doesn't work on short minded people.

The best reaction is, as "on any sunday" told you.

In this special case, it would have been succsesfull to ask his wife if her husband is "always so angry".
As a tourist it´s always a good to say, that you don´t know about this law and you didn´t expect that, because in any other region you have been before, mountainbiking is allowed on pathways.

Or say, that this way was signpostet as MTB Trail at the top of the trail......
Or that the law is obsolent by a decission of the parliament last week......

"Ich nix verstehen" is the answer you can give in any circumstances! Commonly understandable, directly and offensive leads this phrase to a superior position - no matter if you're right or not!
