hi !

it's for sure that you have an older (about 1991) one because of the rear u-brake.

maybe it's an old zaskar frame like I have it:

. . . but i think you'll have to wait for the "real" experts here :daumen:

thanks for that , i had a look at some other threads of yours and it definately looks like your frame .... same welds & gussets.

 i am shocked its an original zaskar ! :D

Tomasius is right. It should be an old Zaskar from the early 90th. After 1992 GT didn´t use U-Brakes anymore. The only other modell that looks familiar to your frame ist an early "Pantera" but after the repaint (the paint job is definitely not original) it´s not decidable.
I think, it´s an Zaskar and so should you do :D
Ride it & love it :daumen:

The Zaskar was made of 6061-T6 alloy and heat treated, the Pantera was 7005 alloy which doesn´t need to be heat treated, but 7005 is not that strong as 6061 is. But there is no way to find out the difference when you don´t want to destroy the frame and make a chemical analysis of the material.

Let me have a look into some GT-Material (catalogs etc.) maybe there is one different detail... I´ll check it out.

Hi, me again.
There´s no chance to find out if your bike is a Zaskar or a Pantera. They look the same. Look at Stiles´ Pantera if you find a different detail, I didn´t.

I don´t know if the frame weight would be different?! But for a reliable compareson you need 2 frames with the same size and without painitng or both painted with the same colour or same powder coat or...

But Zaskars from the first modell series (1991 and 1992) are not as rare as the cheaper Pantera (maybe they survived better), so it´s probably a Zaskar.

Here´s Stiles´ Pantera posting with pics:

whats this different detail ? in the dropout ? or the toptube (mine is sealed "flat" at the back where the logo is stamped)

can I tell by the serial number ?

ok thanks for all your info...

"zaskar76" sent me a message - saying if your serial# has any letters , then it not a zaskar ...

and my serial starts with H1N0XXXX (which is quite similar to stiles pic!) :D

so it looks like i have one of those rare Pantera's , i do kind of wish it was a zaskar , but it rides great anyway :daumen:

:daumen: and kingmoe , i think i did spot a very subtle difference (on the '91-'92 models anyway!)

see how on the zaskar gusset is "squared"

and on the panteras , the gusset is more rounded

Hi!

Congratulations, it´s a Pantera! :daumen:
I read the thread and wondered, why nobody asked for the frame number. Thought this would be one of the best identifiers for Zaskar/Pantera frames...
Really pity, that your Pantera has none of it´s original decals on it. I still need some photographs to rebuild them....

Have fun with your bike! Mine is still half painted...

I called a few of the local bike shops , and no-one has these decals.

but i did find one that had "Zaskar Le" and he said they are blue and yellow !!! , so that will have to do ;)

they also have a black rigid fork at the front , and will also get a black mavic sup for the front with road tyre and the bike will be ready !!! :D

Man I think you just made a fool out of some of us Gt buddies recognizing that little detail.
Seeing the difference between Zassi and Pantera was quite impossible without a frame number - till now... :daumen:

:

not trying to make a fool of anyone, just trying to help out , we are all mates (friends) :daumen:

so can the experts confirm this difference ?
