Ok friends,
I need a bit of background information on beasty bikes, I understand they were German built but ther seems to be very little on the internet about these carbon suspension frames, any Help or comments grateful.

C`mon that frame is not a beauty, maybe its ugly. But it deserves a better groupset! Is this some kind of punishment?

The frame screams: " I´m out of the era when everything done with/crafted out of carbon fibre was straight cool! Hey, i´m made from carbon fibre, i´m pretty cool!"
But when you look closer, there are those limitations visible due to the physical properties of carbon/the probable limitations of the production processes of the early nineties. Take a look at the rear suspension bracket for example: At first sight it looks like it´s made of carbon with some laminated aluminum dropouts. When you look closer you see that in fact it´s made of an aluminum sheet covered with carbon fibre on the outside. Hell, even the cantilever studs are rivetted to the aluminum sheet. I bet there´s no structural integration with the carbon part of the suspension bracket except glueing together the parts.

But it´s a nice piece of history from the early beginnings of suspension technology in mountain biking! :daumen:

Stadtkind - Its all true, it is no beauty, but it is unusual which is why I like it :) , I know the LX groupset is classed as substandard for the frame but its all I had spare in my shed and to be honest I think its a good working light groupset.............. good enough until I can justify an XT or XTR groupset anyway ;)

euphras - yes, the carbon swingarm 'Panels' look the part but are pointless I guess  and you would have thought they would have put more effort in attatching the brake pivots on what seems to have been quite an expensive frame. but it does do the job.

when you look at it all though, the swingarm area was badly thought out, its impossible to adjust the front derailleur and fitting cantilevers leaves very little mud clearance
