Auf der Vulkaninsel Fogo (eine der Kapverdischen Inseln im Atlantik – mehr Infos) fand heute Lauf #1 des Urge Cabo Verde statt. Vor der Abfahrt stand der Aufstieg von 1800m Höhe auf den gut 2800 Meter hohen Vulkan Pico do Fogo auf dem Programm.
Die Abfahrt führte die Piloten dann erst über ausgedehnte Lavafelder, danach über Pisten und zum Abschluss über Singletrails durch den Dschungel bis ans Meer hinunter. Am schnellsten war dabei der Sieger der Megavalanche 2010, Jérôme Clementz.

Urge Cabo Verde – weiterer Ablauf
Insgesamt stehen beim Urge Cabo Verde 5 Tage auf dem Bike an. Es gibt vier Läufe mit Zeitnahme mit insgesamt mehr als 6.000 Tiefenmetern. Der Lauf am Donnerstag war auf Fogo, drei weitere Abfahrten sollen auf Santo Antao Island stattfinden.

Hier noch ein paar Infos zur Organisation:
Fabien Barel ist der Kopf hinter der Urge Serie und hat sich das Ziel gesetzt, durch diese Events möglichst viel Geld für humanitäre Aktionen vor Ort zur sammeln.
Inclusive Fahrer besteht das Urge Team aus 28 Personen – 25 davon sind mit vor Ort. Fast alle des Teams arbeiten wochen- und monatelang ohne Bezahlung für die Organisation des Teams, einige zahlen zusätzlich dazu noch ihre Flüge aus eigener Tasche. Hier wird das Team vorgestellt:
