The analysis of the guy of linkagedesign is almost right but I have to tell you that even if we also use Linkage we have noticed that the data and the graphics generated by linkage do not always correspond to the real behavior of the suspension and to the real sensations that you feel in the use.
I can tell you that the new Damper has a very high anti-squat level. Greater than the previous model. And this entails a great pedaling stability. On the other hand, it has a very light pedalkickbak effect that was completely absent in the previous model. With the new Damper we wanted to push both the Anti-squat level and the pedal quickback level to the limits of performance. If we had given a little more of both values, we would have gone beyond annoying levels. But instead we are convinced that we have remained on the crest. And I must tell you that we are having confirmation of this from the first users of the new Damper, many of whom were already users of the previous model and all of them are confirming that the performance of the new Damper is clearly superior respect the old one, in particular for the efficiency pedaling and responsiveness inside curves. Yes, there is a minimum of pedal kickback on this version and it was wanted during the develope phase because we consider it necessary to increase the performance of the bike. But I can assure you that it is a level that is barely perceptible and never annoying.
The path of the rear wheel axle is also very important. Making a compromise we preferred to have a little pedal kickback, getting a better trajectory of the wheel in return. This is designed to further facilitate the overcoming of the obstacle. So now in the very first part of the movement of the wheels the axle goes back up to 5 mm (previously this value was 2 mm) up to the level of sag, and then goes in fornt for the rest of the travel. This allows a better overcoming of the obstacle, favoring more the natural movement in the impact phase and then crushing the bike and pushing it once the impact is overcome. This also proved to be an improvement for us.
You refer to the anti-squat on long gear ratios, but normally when you pedalin wiht 32T-10t or 14T your are in descendant or at least flat. So you shouldn't push hard or at least do it but on very high rotation frequencies, frequencies and levels that are normally not very influential on the anti-squat. While very important is that the suspension is stable when you push hard uphill at a much slower pace. The new Damper in these situations is exceptional. The suspension does not move. It is completely still. And that was our goal.
About the leveral ratio the curve is pretty similar to the old model. It is a progressive curve tha became little bit less progressive at the end, close to be linear (non regressive) but just in the last few millimeter.
Also this is something that we studied and defined during the development. For us the most important part of the travel is the mid part. It is very important that this part is supported and on the new Damper, this part it is very progressive. We also noticed that with the shock absorbers with medium settings which are the ones we take as reference (both air or coil) a more linear final part helps to use the whole travel especially because being the first part very progressive, already from halfway on, the rate is very high. If we had pushed the progressivity even at the end it would have taken shock absorbers with special settings to be able to take advantage of the whole travel.
Anyway we are super happy about how the new Damper's suspension works and we are sure it is a significant improve in performance respect our old model.
etc...
