Sabine Spitz hat am Samstag das 15. deutsche Gold bei den Olympischen Spielen in Peking geholt. Sie gewann das Crosscountry-Rennen souverän mit einem Start-Ziel-Sieg und trug ihr Rad jubelnd über die Ziellinie. Sie kam mit 41 Sekunden Vorsprung auf die Polin Maja Wloszczowska ins Ziel. Bronze ging an die Russin Irina Kalentjewa.
