Cape Epic 2025 – 3. Etappe Hitzeschlacht am Westkap – die Fotostory

20 Kilometer weniger Strecke, dafür Spannung bis zum letzten Meter – die dritte Etappe des Cape Epic 2025 hatte es in sich! Den extremen Wetterbedingungen trotzten im Feld der Damen zum vierten Mal in Serie Annika Langvad und Sofia Gomez am besten, bei den Herren jubelten hingegen die beiden Italiener Simone Avondetto und Luca Braidot – und das in einem packenden Sprint-Finish! Die bis dato Drittplatzierten in der Gesamtwertung der Herren, Lukas Baum und Georg Egger erwischten einen schwarzen Tag und rutschten bis auf den achten Rang im Gesamtranking zurück.

Damen – Langvad & Gomez bauen Vorsprung aus

Alles beim Alten im Damenfeld: Annika Langvad und Sofia Gomez ließen auf der aufgrund von extremen Temperaturen verkürzten dritten Etappe des Cape Epic 2025 nichts anbrennen und fuhren nach 70 Kilometern und 2500 Höhenmetern mit beträchtlichem Abstand von 4:37 Minuten auf die Zweitplatzierten Vera Looser und Alexis Skarda zum Sieg. Auf Rang drei landeten die beiden Südafrikanerinnen Bianca Haw und Hayley Preen, die 7:05 Minuten hinter Langvad und Gomez den Zielstrich passierten und sich in der Gesamtwertung auf den dritten Rang vorschieben konnten. Die bis dato Drittplatzierten in der Gesamtwertung, Monica Martinez und Tessa Kortekaas landeten auf dem dritten Teilstück des Cape Epic nur auf Rang neun und verloren fast eine halbe Stunde (+ 29:42 Minuten) auf die Tagessiegerinnen.

Bis zur 20-Kilometer-Marke dauerte es dieses Mal, bis sich die Dominatorinnen der bisherigen Etappen im Damenfeld, Annika Langvad und Sofia Gomez vom Rest der Konkurrenz absetzen konnten: Am ersten langen Anstieg des Tages setzte sich das dänisch-argentinische Duo an die Front und zog auf und davon. Kontinuierlich bauten Langvad und Gomez ihren Vorsprung auf die Konkurrentinnen, allen voran den Zweitplatzierten Vera Looser und Alexis Skarda aus, und fuhren letztlich souverän zum erneuten Tagessieg. Im Gegensatz zum Vortag, als Langvad und Gomez die Herausforderungen der großen Hitze zunächst unterschätzten und ein zu hohes Anfangstempo dazu führte, dass die beiden ihre Kräfte im weiteren Verlauf der Etappe haushalten mussten, gelang es dem Toyota-Specialized-Duo dieses Mal der Konkurrenz noch deutlicher zu enteilen. Mit 13:59 Minuten liegen Langvad und Gomez nun in der Gesamtwertung vor Vera Looser und Alexis Skarda in Führung.

Herren – Wilier-Vittoria siegt im Duell der XC-Asse

In einem packenden Sprint-Finish sicherten sich Simone Avondetto und Luca Braidot auf der dritten Etappe des Cape Epic 2025 den zweiten Etappensieg. Wie schon bei ihrem Sieg zum Auftakt der „Tour de France der Mountainbikerinnen und Mountainbiker“ verwiesen die beiden Italiener das schweizerische Duo Nino Schurter / Filippo Colombo auf den zweiten Rang. Auf Rang drei kamen etwas überraschend die beiden Südafrikaner Marco Joubert und Tristan Nortje ins Ziel: Sie schoben sich mit ihrem bis dato besten Ergebnis beim diesjährigen Cape Epic auch in der Gesamtwertung nach vorne und liegen nun auf dem dritten Rang.

Während Joubert und Nortje ihren wohl besten Tag des Cape Epic 2025 verbuchen konnte, galt das genaue Gegenteil für die größte deutsche Hoffnung auf eine Top-Platzierung bis dato, dem Speed Company Racing-Team um Georg Egger und Lukas Baum: Bereits nach 20 Kilometer verloren Egger und Baum den Anschluss zur Spitze am ersten langen Anstieg des Tages, im Anschluss sollten mehrere Defekte den besonders schwarzen Tag des Duos perfekt machen. Mehr als 15 Minuten verloren Baum und Egger letztendlich auf die Tagessieger Luca Braidot und Simone Avondetto und somit auch jegliche Chancen auf ein Top-Ergebnis in der Gesamtwertung.

An der Spitze waren es indes zunächst die Tagessieger des Vortages Martin Stošek und Wout Alleman, die nach dem ersten Anstieg des Tages das Spitzenfeld mit einer entschlossenen Attacke dezimierten. Fünf Teams, darunter das Buff-Megamo Team selbst, sowie das Scott-SRAM MTB Racing (Nino Schurter und Filippo Colombo), Wilier-Vittoria (Luca Braidot und Simone Avondetto), Klimatiza Orbea (Samuele Porro und Marc Stutzmann) und etwas überraschend das südafrikanische Imbuko ChemChamp-Team (Marco Joubert und Tristan Nortje) setzten sich in der Folge ab.

Nach und nach reduzierte sich anschließend diese fünf Teams umfassende Spitzengruppe, ehe sich zu Beginn des letzten Renndrittels nur noch die beiden gesamtführenden Duos Schurter / Colombo und Avondetto / Braidot sowie Marco Joubert und Tristan Nortje gemeinsam an der Spitze vorfanden. Bis zuletzt blieben diese drei Teams zusammen, erst auf den letzten Kilometer verloren die beiden Südafrikaner Joubert und Nortje noch den Anschluss. Es kam also zum Sprint der beiden Duos Nino Schurter / Filippo Colombo und Simone Avondetto / Luca Braidot: In diesem gelang es schließlich Avondetto und Braidot sich knapp gegenüber dem Scott-SRAM Duo Schurter und Colombo durchzusetzen und sich somit Tagessieg Nummer zwei beim Cape Epic zu sichern. Rang drei ging an Marco Joubert und Tristan Nortje mit knappen 12 Sekunden Rückstand. Erst 2:31 Minuten später rollte das viertplatzierte Klimatiza Orbea-Team um Marc Stutzmann und Samuele Porro ins Ziel, mit 4:47 Minuten folgten die beiden Südafrikaner Marc Pritzen und Wessel Botha auf dem fünften Rang.

    Traurige Geschichte. Wenn ich den Text richtig interpretiere, wird von Verletzungen gesprochen, was mir eher nach einem Sturz/Unfall als nach Problemen mit der Hitze klingt. Eine Kombination aus beidem ist natürlich auch nicht auszuschließen.

    Ich hätte mir hier mehr Informationen vom Veranstalter gewünscht, die in sachlicher Art und Weise auch nicht die Privatsphäre verletzen würden. Schließlich kann die Aufarbeitung solcher Vorfälle (im öffentlichen Diskurs) positives bewirken, wie noch bessere Sicherheitsvorkehrungen oder das man ganz persönlich daraus Schlüsse ziehen kann. Den Faden der Pressemeldung gleich dicht zu machen, halte ich in diesem Sinne auch für falsch. Muriel Furrer war ja auch kein Tabuthema und es gab bestimmt die eine oder andere Lektion zu lernen.

    Den Faden der Pressemeldung gleich dicht zu machen, halte ich in diesem Sinne auch für falsch.
    Meinst die typisch sachliche, ruhige und auf Fakten basierende Forumskultur hätte da Sinn gemacht?

    Besser so.

    Ja, ist unglücklich formuliert. Das ist aber einer dieser Momente, wo man sowas aber lieber für sich behält.

    Auch wenn es ein Schreibfehler meinerseits war, wer eine Todesmeldung mit "Wow" kommentiert muss irgendwie schief gewickelt sein
