KAMIKAZE DOWNHILL SEP-27-04
This was not a national, but rather a sideshow race to honor the event that put Mammoth mountain biking on the map. From atop the slope riders were sent down a flowing fire road in 30 second intervals. The event was open to pros and semipros. For Mammoth trophy boy John Tomac it was the perfect race to come out of retirement for. And what better way is there to smooth out those wrinkles than to stretch your face back by blasting down a mountain at 60 mph? For Tomac Mammoth was a welcomed opportunity to take a break from the design tables at Kenda and Tomac Bikes, as well as chasing Amateur National Motocross Championships with his son Eli.

Returning for the first time since the mid-1990s was the high-speed Kamikaze Downhill, won by 1994 and 1997 NORBA national downhill champion veteran John Tomac (Kenda-Tomac), who reportedly hit speeds of 59mph.
"I haven't raced in four years," said Tomac. "I didn't expect to win today, but I had a perfect ride, and just found my line the whole way down."
