Msxtr,

we are puzzling which LEDs you have used. From your other postings, I assume that you have used K2's with suitable CARCLO-optics.

One thing is worrying me: your chest will be cut into pieces when you happen to smash yourselves onto the heat sink. I don't think you need it, as soon as you are riding, the wind will provide sufficient cooling air.

Best Regards to Spain!!

Hi. Yes I used 2 luxeon k2 widh carlo optics. I used konlux at 1500 ma and this led are very, very hot, the heat sink I believe that yes is necessary, this is a CPU of PC heat sink.

Sorry, but my english is very very poor and I do not know the german language :(

Greetings from Spain to Germany

http://www.mtb-news.de/forum/showthread.php?t=40274
Allí ya hay muchisimas fotos y instrucciones des tipo "Hazlo tu mismo".

Saludos

Jut jetzt mal zurück zum thema. i think we should talk in english ... i had spanish in school, but i forgot everything ... ist auch gut so *gg*.

In my opinion the pictures of the beamshots in the night don't really say something about the real intensity of the lamp. belichtungsdauer usw.
if i compare my experiences with your lamp i can say, that it is use-able as a lamp for the area directly in front of the bike or as light for the sides of the trail. is it used for that?
i would prefer to drive the lamps at lower current. at the moment i use the K2 S00 at 700-1000mA, this should be the most effective way of making light with K2 leds. in an other thread people are talking a lot about the so called "cree led" that brings at 700mA more lumens than a luxeon at the same current. weather the carclo-optics are use-able for this led-type is not known by me. actually i'am searching for a shop to buy some crees. i will make some experiments with optics and parabolic mirrors (my situation: not much time and not much money).

so thats enough, i hope my english does't sound like .... (bad)

Greetings Tino

SektSchlampe Thanks for your comments.

I think what k2 leds at 700 ma is very poor, at 1000 ok, but widh more leds 3 or 4.

This light I use to ridding for tracks, the ouput light I allow ridding equal that by day.

The cree leds have very impresive light at 700 ma. I will wait yours experiments widht this leds.

When you find a store that sales crees cheap, it warns to me :D

Hi MsXTR

Last weekend I mounted three 3 Watt K2 together on a heat sink and connected
them to a constant current source of 700 mA. which I thought to mount into a
plastic sewage tube and this on my helmet.
Luckily I did not because the heat sink was heated up over 60 degree C within
30 minutes.
Now I´m thinking about a metal housing for it or if I can connect it to my dynamo
of my city bike.

How did you made your housing?

Best regards and sorry for my bad Spanisch ;-)

Sorry, but my english is very very poor and I do not know the german language :(

oh ;) when i read your thread title, i first thought: has german language now been completely eradicated by business westerners ? but now i seem to understand that this forum is a really large thing in europe :)

ah, and my illuminati:-)on pictures are linked left "Fotos"

I would think by using thighter focused optics the usefulness of the light FOR BIKING! would be greatly improved.
These 15 degrees might be perfect for caving but from speeds over slow running
At least one should be changed (only if You drive slow on trails with much direction changes in brush, else both)

PS: ist this 3 AA batt setup at the photos Your acutal pack? What is the runtime then? My guess would be about 1 hour max.
Is the driver able offer a few different output settings?

(as long as Luxeon does not put out better leds, there is no use to make anything with Lux III and especially K2. With my cree setup, compared to a lux III, both at 650 mA to the led and with almost similar heatsinks, the heat is barely noticeable on the touch while the lux sink is almost too hot to put the finger on it. Imagine all Your heat problems gone away) ;)

I currently use 2xK2@1A, too. With MOBDAR Optics it's very good light for the road bike. Probably not enough for mountainbiking. I also wouldn't use K2 anymore, they are not noticably brighter then the T-Bin Luxeon III I had before and the Luxeon Stars are easier to handle.

As for the Crees: The XR-E are not yet available in Europe. Do not confuse them with the regular XLamp 7090, which are not better then Luxeons. Thanks to yellow_ö I will hopefully get my first XR-Es in time for Christmas. Optics for Luxeons will probably not work, I'm still looking for suitable optics/reflectors, then I may post some beam shots.

I haven't tried carclo optics, but the fraen ones were much worse than the MOBDARs.

Hi at all

Monsterwade My housing is made from aluminium and the heat sink too.

liquidnight:lol: :bier: Yes, how you see my german language is very very bad :D ;) At school in Spain only teach spanish & english and of this last I learn little :(

yellow_ö perhaps you are all right, widh optics of 6 or 10º it had been better, but, widh 15º I go well.

I use now 8 AA battery pack, with them the runtime at maximum of power is about 3 hours.

There aren't differents output powers, is only one position.

schmadde Where did you obtain the MOBDAR optics for K2 leds??

Thank you at all for your answers ;)

@msxtr
how is your battery pack constructed? can you measure the current while using the lamp? my experiments show me that these mignon-batterys are not able to deliver 1000mA, only if i have them in a 2x3 batterypack i could reach 1A.

@schmadde
yes the freans are really not the best, besides of the elliptical-optik.

At the moment i drive 2xK2 with mobdar at 1000mA (without any driver, only 2x3 AA "sanyo" i think the best ni-mh-akku, if you don't want to spend alot of money for lithium-ionen-akkus)
my second lamp is 2x luxeon V with 1x6AA at probaly 500mA (i know, not very effective these luxeons) with frean 10° optics. this lamp is an relict from former times, where i only build my lamps with frean optics.

Hallo!!!

SektSchlampe I use this holder for 8 batteries

250_box-aa-4x2.jpg

In theory, this batteries they are 2950 ma/h, but I don't measure your current using the lamp, but, I will try it.

schmadde Thanks, I will watch it.
