Check here. I had the same problem, the shapeshifter was replaced. When you ge the new one It is always wise to doublecheck, when switching from DH to XC, that shapeshifter is FULLY EXTENDED, otherwise you risk this failure again...

So, have you all solved the issue with kette-geräuch? SRAM chain definitely helps? Mine started to make awful sounds after only 4,000 height meters. I see nobody here rides with SPD pedals. They work like a charm when changing to XC mode.

In my case, chain was dropping for 3-4 gears from 42t when pedalling backwards. Things did improve after few runs, now it only drops for 1 gear (to 36t). I guess the chain has to break-in a little... According to mtbr forum, this can be avoided by reducing the chain tension. I didn't try it yet...
