Race Face Announces UFC III - What would YOU do for US$25,000?
The Race Face Ultimate Freeride Challenge is back for its third straight year and, once again, we?re ready to take another rider from the amateur ranks and deliver them to freeride super stardom. And this year, the total ?winner takes all? cash prize is US$25,000!
The contest, which calls for riders to submit a one minute freeride video along with a 30 second lifestyle segment, has already spawned the pro-riding careers of Tyler ?Super T? Klassen and Matt Hunter. Tyler?s now one of freeriding?s elite while Matt is following closely in his footsteps ? having just finished filming his segment for New World Disorder IV and securing an invite to the Red Bull Rampage. Their lives have changed drastically from the moment we announced their names in Monterey. Now, we?re looking to make dreams a reality for another talented rider. Only difference this year is that we?ve increased the stakes significantly, bringing the cash value up to US$25,000!
The prize money more than doubled in size, thanks to Giant Bicycles and Manitou, who?ve come on as the official bike and suspension sponsors of the Race Face Ultimate Freeride Challenge. The winner of the UFC III will be signed to a sponsorship contract with Giant Bicycles, Manitou Suspension and of course Race Face for components, clothing and protection. Aside from the thousands of dollars worth of product the winner will receive, the total cash value of the contract is US$25,000!
?Increasing the prize money was very important to us? says Race Face?s Marshall Rutman. ?It really helps us accomplish what we wanted to do with the contest - that is to help the winner realize their true potential as a pro rider. To do that, they need to be riding every day, be available for photo shoots, filming, traveling etc. That?s pretty tough to do when you have a day job. This prize money will allow the winner to make a living by riding their bike - the true definition of a professional rider.?
So if you think you?ve got what it takes to make it as a pro freerider, show us. Rules are the same as last year. Send us a one-minute riding video that best represents your view on the current freeride scene. You?ll also need to submit a separate 30-second lifestyle segment, which you can use as a forum to showcase your personality and to explain what freeriding means to you. Once again, a star-studded jury at Race Face will judge the videos and we?ll pick our 16 favourite videos. The sweet 16?s riding segments will then go up against each other on our web site with our online community voting for who they think should advance to future rounds. The 16 riders will become 4 semi-finalists and from those four, our online community will choose two UFC finalists. At this point, we?ll show our community the finalist?s lifestyle segment for them to vote on who they think should become the third Ultimate Freeride Champion. And just like last year, we?ll fly the two finalists down
to the Sea Otter Classic in Monterey California, where we?ll tally the votes and crown the UFC III winner.
Sound simple enough? Then get off your computer, grab your buddies and start filming. Here?s some dates you need to remember:
February 6th, 2004 ? Submission deadline for the UFC III
March 6th, 2004 ? First round of videos go online
April 17th, 2004 ? Winner announcement in Monterey, California
Make sure to download the entry form from our site (www.raceface.com/ufc) and include that with your video.
Good luck and maybe we?ll see you in Monterey.
