Inwiefern van der Poel in den Kampf um die vorderen Plätze in Les Gets eingreifen werden kann ist daher allemal fraglich – zumal der Niederländer im Short Track aufgrund seiner nicht vorhandenen Weltranglistenpunkte nicht startberechtigt ist und in der Cross-Country-Disziplin von weit hinten ins Rennen gehen wird. Anders als in zwei Wochen bei den Weltmeisterschaften, wo van der Poel von einer Sonderregelung profitieren wird, die ihm ein Startplatz im vorderen Feld bescheren wird.

Regularien XCO-Worldcup:

Place 33rd to 40th of the start order will be allocated to riders ranked in below rankings, unless they are listed on the start order between the place 1st to 32nd according to point 1 and 2 above:
• top 10 of the UCI cyclo-cross individual ranking
• top 20 of the UCI road individual world ranking
