Maybe give credit where credit's due? https://ridemonkey.bikemag.com/threads/frankenbrakes-and-brake-improvement-discussion.274164/
But, might be a Lewis thing, eh Trickstuff?
@dark.5 Haha yeah, basically every day I'm going back and forth (especially when they're in stock somewhere) saying just do it, and then rationality taking over and saying this is nonsense and a way too much money to be paying for brakes and they'll probably get damaged, and what if they also...
Much appreciated @dark.5 ! This would be a brake for my street trials bike (system weight 100 kg), which needs both modulation and as much power as possible. Using Shigura at the moment, and while power is good, the lever feel just is so dead.
Used to have some Dominions on there too, but...
Maciag also has the Direttissima again.
Guys, for who has ridden both, how does the lever feel of the Maxima compare to the Hayes Dominion? In smoothness, friction, firmness?
I have ridden them both on my street trials bike for a few months. As far as power is concerned, there's not much in it, very very similar. Modulation also similar, they were both easy to modulate. Lever feel goes to Hayes, by far easier and smoother to operate. Pulling the lever is...
Sorry for writing in English, but yeah, I ordered a pair of T4 V4s from him last year. Had many issues with them and he'd rather had me send the brakes directly to Hope. But Hope wanted me to send the brakes to him 😵 In the end I did send them directly to Hope.
Unfortunately the issues...
You've got this nerdy spreadsheet with brake data right? I built this nerdy website (https://brakes.ddzyne.nl) based on the Ridemonkey data. Maybe we should collaborate to make all that data a bit better 😊
I can try for a picture later tonight or tomorrow. But it's actually not something very obvious you can see. When I took them out (the Hope seals in this case, the most recent fail), one of them looked ever so slightly deformed, a bit elongated. Perhaps also with an edge that wasn't 100%...
Yeah maybe? All brakes that started leaking I use for trials riding, so they see some massive impact forces, as in, full on locked wheel slamming hard into a ledge with (me and my bike's) 100 kg on top. I've had so many brakes leaking past the pistons, it's pretty insane. Formula T1 two sets...
(Excuse the English) Had the same with my A2s, after just two rides. Took the piston and seal out, but looked fine. Kept leaking though. Not very confidence inspiring.
Hayes EU support sent me a rebuild kit for the caliper, after I contacted them directly. So far so good with a new seal and...
V4, but unfortunately also leaking. Please excuse the English, my German is not good enough to write more than a few words :) The seat stay must have had a small crack right below the weld. The aluminium was slightly discoloured/darker there. Never noticed it unfortunately, so no idea how long...
Tigers GmbH in Hallbergmoos, apparently. Address provided by Robin Warne. They probably arrange shipping back to the UK. Bit of a Hope fanboy I smell here? ;)
I actually just got an email from Hope back, basically telling me 'might be an MC failure, just send them back to your dealer and good luck'. Not much support there then.
As great as they work, when they work, it's been a bit of a mistake getting these brakes I'm starting to fear.
Edit: on...
I'm sure they will, though they're not quick to respond (have taken it up with the shop as well now after this last fail). But, for a brand new brake at this price point, you shouldn't need customer service after a few rides. Hope's quality control is just not there.
