I'm sorry I will write in Englisch 'cos my Deutsch ist zu schlecht fuer Sie.
I don't know if anyone has already asked this question, as I said my German is not good.

I'm having problems riding uphill on rocky terrain, because BB is too low and I always hit a 3cm or higher rock or root. It's quite annoying and it's almost impossible to ride a technical uphill.
I weigh 65kg and the pressure in rear shock is about 8 bar. Fork pressure is even lower at 5 bar.

What I want to know is: is it the case just with XC series or ES too?
And is there any improvement in this field in year 2006 or maybe 2007.
Do I need just to put some more pressure in my Fox-es?

I hope someone could give me an answer even if has already been answered or maybe just to show me the right topic.

Thanks a lot!

No, I don't have this problem. Basically the bottom bracket is rather low,
but mine would never tough any obstacle that is at a height of 3 (three?) centimetres!

Could it be possible that your rear shock is damaged? With how much Sag do you ride it?

No, I wrote it rather wrong. I meant that I touch the ground with my pedals. So I have to ratchet all the time to get over obstacles. It's really not an issue when going downhill. It's just that i like to ride the tough terrain uphill too.
My mates doesn't have a problem with that on other bikes that is.

Thanks for the answer thus far.

OK, now I understand what you meant... ;)

I ride trails uphill too and sometimes touch a obstacle with a height of about 10cm, but this has not been a serious problem during my rides.

Again: with how much Sag have you set up your rear shock?

@FloImSchnee 1,5 cm. It is maybe too much, I know.

I tried today with a lot more pressure: 13 Bar and it's better. But rear shock is hardly doing anything at this kind of pressure. I would have to change pressure each time the gradient turn from - to + or viceversa.

But as I can see it it's not making too much of a problem for other canyon users so the problem might be with me.

You are right -- 13 Bars is definitely too much.

I decide upon which pressure to take according to two criteria:
a) Rough approximation by about 20% Sag.
b) Fine tuning via observation of the travel that is actually used. --> when I do the hardest jumps, I dare to do, there should be about 95% travel being used. Otherwise the pressure is either too hard or too soft.

Compared to my hardtail, the bottom bracket (and thus also the pedals) are lower at the Canyon.
Disadvantage: touching of the ground, as you described.
Advantage: its much easier to keep the balance when sitting on the Canyon.
So, there's always a turn-off between those two characteristics.

Very well explained, FloImSchnee. Thanks a lot. I totally agree with you.
But it's just if I want to use all the travel in rear shock I hit the ground.
When I don't hit the ground (at really high pressure) then I use just cca. 2/3 of the travel. It's a waste.
But since no one else is having a go in this conversation, I assume that it's something I will have to get used to.
Are the new bikes 2006 and maybe 2007 built in the same way with very low BB? Maybe anyone from Canyon can answer that?

Urby,
I have the same problem. You only have one possibility: bike faster and try not to turn your crank in a tricky passage:lol: What frame size do you have? I have XL and my weight is 86kg. As I think the distance is always the same no matter what the size is my problems with this should be even bigger. But I got used to it. With bigger tires you will gain a few mm, but I cannot say if you feel that on the trail.
One more thing: I ride with a pressure of 8 bar in my shock, I think 8 bar with 65kg is too much!! (but it might be different with a different frame size). You should try to reduce the pressure, no disadvantage in uphill (except a very few passages), but overall much more comfort.

Finally one with the same problem.:daumen: My bike is M. I try to bike faster but it's annoying you have to watch out everytime the pedal gets down are you gonna hit a rock or not.
I got used to it too, but I'm still not totally comfortable with it.
Yes I tried different pressure in shock, maybe I'll try even less than 7bar.

Anyone with 2006 edition of XC? I'm looking forward to buy maybe another Canyon sometime in the near future. But I'll have to go for ES or Spectral?
