Hi,

I am a Belgian PE teacher. The inspection has asked me to give a clinic mtb to other pe teachers. Are there German PE teachers on this forum who have experience with mtb in their lessons? Is mtb already in the curriculum in Germany?

I am not a PE teacher but as an schoolboy on a German school I can say to you that something exotic like MTB hasn´t got any change in German school in the moment.
To complex for the teachers:D
But you should try to teach that subject at your school.:daumen:
It would be a small start but I think for the student it would be great.
I hope my English isnt too terrible:lol:

Hi,

PE= Physical Education? -> "sport" in German?

In that case, I am a trainee teacher an I can tell You about a pilot project to include Biking into the school routine.

this is a special project wich ist discribed in the Curriculum as: "Bewegungsfeld rollen, gleiten, fahren" (this theatching block contains the following areas of sports: rolling, gliding, driving [crude translation])

this has continued for 6 years now since the first course witch started in Grade 11 of a Gymnasium and has bin a continued offer for pupils of Sec II. This project was initialised by a teacher who was a triathlon, an repeated Hawaiian iron man who intended to present his "sport" an animate the following generations.

due to the lac of race bikes mtb was included into the course.

This School year I have been assisting in the teaching and can discribe some principle experiances and guidelines witch I consider important in this context:

1. the amount of Time needed is much greater than 90 minutes

2. A second person is necessary if the group is larger than 6-10 (maybe 15 depending on discipline an age of the pupils)

3. The pupils are extremely different in their speed and endurance

4. the personal bikes are sometimes in desperate condition (and flatt tyres or other probs need to bee anticipated)

5. some do not have a own bike

6. some do not have even an helmet!!

7. the whole business is questionable in light of insurance

8.nevertheless the experience is very rewarding, since the contact to the pupils is much less formal and they are strongly motivated by doing something different than usual PE!!
Improvisation may be necessary if the group is slower than anticipated and the fast ones need to be occupied while the group is collected again, even on 2 or 4 Km without hill climb the group will disperse with a distance of at least 2-3 minutes from first to last
the fast ones can bee send on circular tracs until the others catch up - the second person needs to stay at the rear to see that no one is left behind and eventually tow the slow ones in - (very challenging and exerting) if the group has some routine it is a good idea to let them seek the way them self or to let the fast ones tow the slower ones.

In principle the whole is not so different from the Job of a tour guide but it hinges on the cooperation of the pupils and their internal dynamic.

you can write me a PM should you have further specific questions

best regards
