Spaeter mehr...

Purchased this 12" '94 Phoenix SE in 2004 from Andreas in Germany. This would fit me better than the '94 15"er (canti version) that I had a while before that, which I sold to Scotland.

Had ambitious plans for the build, some home-made stuff in proper WTB-thinking. Bodged a crankset together with a CQP crank arm, RSR spider and Boone ti rings that I had machined such that they would be flush on all edges with the RSR spider. The bodge-job didn't work out... and let's be honest, 177mm cranks for me, on a 12" bike isn't a cool thing.

Than I had to solve the rear-brake problem; the supplied toggle cam hit the seatbinder bolt. Laser-cut a new camplate with an offset cable ancor point and welded a treaded stud to it. Worked perfect. Modified the rear hub to a ti axle and ti XTR body (not period correct, Im aware).

For years the project was slumbering on, still needed a LD stem as for sure I wanted a WTB drop bar on this bike. In the pre-classic-hype days I managed to get me some WTB shifter mounts and 3 dirt drop bars. In the meantime I drew up my Crisp Ti singlespeeder following the Phoenix' lines and base its geo strongly on this WTB. Have been riding on that Phoenix-nephew since 2006... Funny enough the Phoenix already feels 'at home'.

Enter 2009 when I finally got 2 LDs made by Rody Walter... Went out for tracking down a top notch painter who could match the color of the frame so I could get the stem and the forks painted (fork was painted in Germany seperatly from the frame, didn't match). After quite some try's, they nailed it.

After purchasing a house (time crusher, right there...), and more or less accidently score a near nos XTR crankset, the build-up finally came closer. The 36h front wheel needed to go as the rear counted 32 spokes.
With some help of a friend close to the source I was able to get Charlie Cunningham to make me a Hi-E based 28h front hub. Relaced the rear hub together with the new front hub to some more period correct M231 Mavic rims and after tracking down a proper BB and M737 pedals, the build was on!

hello jeroen

do you know if your frame is suspension corrected?
i own a 94 phoenix as well, and would like to know if i can build it up with the type 2 fork that i got which is only 390mm (stackheight) and i guess that this woulnd´t work the way it should.

very nice build though!
