Hi,

From America nicht sprechen ze Deutch :( Is the Extralite good/very good/great for X/C racing? What is the suspension like-Specialized FSR, or more/less plush? Reliable too? DANKE :)

Hi Scott!

The question about the extralite frames is: what about your weight?
If you´re about more than 80kg (sorry for the metric data) - hmm.
Trial and error could became an expensive experience.
The extralite frames are very light, nice framework and cool to ride.
A friend of mine rides the suspension and he´s enthusiastic.
So , inmy opinion - a good deal and a bike you´ll not find that often.

I know it's a poor example of German but I had to try the translation service BabelFish :)

Hi Scott

The Extralite F1 is an absolute race bike. Very tough and the suspension is comperable to the Specialized FSR. I rode it and I realy like it. It gives you a big amount of extra speed, becourse of it's weight.
(And you should write in english than use the babelfish, a lot of people here understand english, but after using babelfish all the sense of a text is gone ;) )

As I'm not too heavy and plan to use the F1 for X/C only I'm looking forward to building it up into the lightweight ride expected of an "Extralite" name. Thanks for the BabelFish tip-it's easy to forget how many Europeans are multilingual. One other question, the F1 has a 31.6 seatpost tube and my FRM post is 27.2, an expander from 27.2 to 31.6 is made-can anyone suggest a reason not to use the expander? I'd like to keep the FRM post.

Thanks
Scott

You should use the Extralite parts, they are realy nice and of course very leight.
A reason not to use the expander? It's ugly...
But that's all I think. But please use a good expander like those from "Use"

@scott
this is my configuration.
You see,I use ´standard´parts. In spring I´d like to tune it, where it is possible. The final weight -I think - can be 9,5-9,0 kg.New tires, some light bolts, bar ends,...... .
I rode the bike during marathons trough the year, trough the alps last year. My bike is a sports utility for me and so it is used. No showroombike.
More fotos can I send you to your email.
The bike is neutral in the (Grenzbereich??), and also makes a lot of fun on singletrails.
The bearings last now for 2500km without service, also the rear shock.

Good to hear of long term pivot and shock life-it's a long way to Italy for service from America :) I recognize many of the components and especially the Tune which have a good name among weight watching riders here but are not too common still. Actually it was a used 31.6 Tune post I considered for the 27.2 FRM post replacement but $80 U.S. when a expender/sleeve cost $8 so I will use the sleeve (but a good sleeve!) Yes, Thorsten please send your pics of the F1 to [email protected] I would like to see the rear dropout especially, opposite of deraileur side. Mine looks so fragile I wonder if it was modified on later models such as yours?

Thanks,
Scott

Hello,

One more question. The front derailleur is 34.9 clamp, top pull and bottom swing, or top swing? The F1 is in transit, will arrive Saturday or Monday :)

Thanks!
