Bridgestone is going to be using the same light-weight tubing that Ritchey
is using in his Project-23 (the P-23 weighs only 22.8 lbs.). Light-weight
is in! I think that a lot of attention is going to be given to
light-weight Mountain racing bikes in the next few years.
Shimano is introducing an off-road clipless pedal (according to NORBA
News). It apparently has a recessed cleat so that you can run in
it. I haven't seen any pictures of them, so its hard to say how they
would work.
Rock Shox are starting to show up in local shops. I haven't talked to
anyone whose used them yet... but they sure are heavy.
Don Myrah is back from the Cyclocross Worlds in Europe. I saw his
new Yeti last weekend. It's a lot heavier than the P-23 he was racing
on last year (I think he said it was 28 lbs.). He's working with
Yeti and Campagnolo to get the weight down. The Campy stuff looked promising
but it is a little heavy and has some weird features. I think Don's going to
be crucial in helping Campagnolo put out a cool (MTB) groupo.
