Hi everyone,

I might have met a few of you at GBBC Berlin, for those that were not there let me introduce my self....

My name is Alex and I have been riding singlespeeds since 1997, starting out on a cheap frame and second hand bits.....now I own a Matt Chester Ute with lots of nice bits on it.

I used to own / run John Atkins Cycles in Leamington / UK for 5 years before I moved to my current job. JAC is best know for getting Dawes to make a Singlespeed (the Edge One) and turning a Klein road bike in to a MTB s/s! (it did work....until it broke!)

If you have any questions about UK products (Hope, Middleburn, DMR etc...) let me know.....Phaty will probably have to translate as I can only order beer in German!

Here's a picture of me suffering on the GBBC hillclimb...36:16 FIXED!

Welcome Alex :bier:

if you can order beer in german, you know the most important word(s) ;)

Cheers Chris, your longhaired-Berlin-Generator-roommate

P.S: Can you tell me something about your tiny plain headset (I always forgot the name  ), he looks so small does he fit in a "normal" 11/8" Steartube or is he special made for the Ute?

Hi Itz,

It is a "Star" headset from the US. When I went to visit Maverick American in Colorado I stayed with Frank Scurlock (The Maverick sales guy)His flat-mate was a machinist called Guri who had designed and made this headset.

It is made from heat-treated stainless steel that is machined AFTER heat-tratment so there is no distorsion. 41 tiny (SPD pedal size!) bearings top and bottom, and a proper mechanical seal (bronze rings)

It has an 18mm stack hight, and comes in 1", 1-1/8" Ahead and 1" threaded.

It weighs 98g, and costs a bit less than a King one (£100 / E140@). Mine has been in the bike 2 years and has never been greased, no dirt in it, never needed adjustment.....the best headset ever!

I am looking to start importing them to the UK / Europe through my employer (we import Thomson at the moment)

Yeah Alex!

Never greased? No dirt in it? Never needed adjustment?

Probably you should try to ride your bike. I've a headset here beeing in reserve for five years or so and there are also no issues with it.

SCNR ;)

Welcome to the IBC-Forum! Maybe you remember me ... GBBC, October 2nd - 5th -- the most shitfaced guy at the first night:
