I was thinking about to change the cree R2 (now in my powerled) for a cree MC-E (I know that the original PL optics don't work for the MC-E, but I will put a "good" optic for MC-E) but, only with the electronic thread, what configuration would the better to run the MC-E led, all in series, I think that not, since I need 3,7*4 = 14,8 volts, maybe 2p+2p then I need a 7,2 (really 8,4 volts of the Li-ion battery) for each 2 groups of leds, if the KSQ of the PL work to 1000 (I think) then the MC-E led will work to 7,2 volts to 500ma x 2 (4 leds)....you think that this configuration would work with the PL??....help please...

You will need another driver (what You know)

general thoughts on driver:
the less the current, the smaller the components
--> led in series = smallest driver. (if size is of importance).
plus:
to drive "normal" Led (= up to 1000 mA @ 3.7-4 V) in Series, there are quite some good drivers available for years now. wjith good regulation and surfire working
in a 2 series / 2 parallel, or 4 parallel setup, there simply are no drivers
(that was and is my main critic to the P7)

PS: try the original optic. The sizes of the MC-E are the same, so it should fit physically.
As the emitting surface is larger, the beam size will increase (if the main beam is double wide, that could be considered as perfect)

Are you sure that with the "original" dirver of the PL don't will work this led. I remember that someone try this driver to 11 volts of Vin, if I put by example 2 leds in series don't will give 3,7 + 3,7 volts of Vout?? ...
