What Happends when you mix Bicycles and Motobikes

isn't it a little bit dangerous riding the typical san fran street uphill with so much weight behind the rear axle? how do you handle this? are you doing wheelies nonstop?

I never say it was easy, you need to get used to the transfer of mass to the rear of the bike, but then again the GS is so front heavy (since the engine is so low and forward) the bike is really stable even when loaded.

Is not like I'm that good of a rider (Above average for sure but not a rockstar by any extend) I can climp the steepest streets in the city like Divisadero with out even putting my feet on the ground for the stops, is all about clutch control, but it helps that the opposite twin engine of the BMW provides so much torque at really low RPMs.(less prone to wheelie if you have good throttle control)

You guys did good with this bike, it work and it works, every time for everything.

Varadero *duckandrun*

I have no idea what "duckandrun" is, but I don't like that bike, is to heavy kind of cheap and impractical and also is full of plastic that can break and get damage really easy, but at least you can buy them, when here in the US you can not..

Plus you have the alps and the dolomites to ride them like is no tomorrow, in some of the most awesome roads that I have ever see.

Hi Patineto, I think I've seen you with that BMW at El corte de madera creek in the Santa Cruz Mountains, around last year in July!

This is really crazy, I like it!

Cheers

Didn´t I see that pic in some 3 year old Mountain Bike Action mag? I still got that issue somewhere....?!

Yeah actually my bike is being on M.T.A. at least 4 times over the years, among a few other paper and internet magazines.

Funny when I was racing long time ago my dream was to be on that magazine, but i was never even close to be that good (not even crashing good), now is my strange brain that take me in there, when I don't even care anymore.

I do love to open peoples mind to the possibilities, since being able to carry my bicycles totally change my life on this big country i live in, now I can go anywhere, camp get to ride amazing roads and enjoy the motorcycle but also have the best excuse to go on trips just to ride my bicycles somewhere fun, pretty and far..

What Honda model would you suggest that can do all that? Would have to be an enduro, so either the discontinued Africa Twin or the Transalp. Both are underpowered compared to the GS. I'm not a fan of the BMW looks (and weight) either, but for someone who rides that much and carries that much, I'd say he has the perfect bike.

I have try to make racks for a few bikes, for example my KTM 640, but the bikes just don't have the stable platform the GS provide.

I also try to make them for triump tigers and V-stroms (not my bikes, but friends) and my own KTM 950 but i was never confident with the way the rear subframe will hold (Incredible cantilever loads) so i never really made one.

The GS are for sure ugly, slow and overbuild, but they make for a very nice "Pick up truck" platform.

hi there patineto, i can only assume that your neighbor has a far better taste in motorcycles, juding from that picture that i quoted ;)
ORANGE!!!!!!! ;)
check my gallery http://fotos.mtb-news.de/fotos/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=11752

Oh I have some of the Orange toys my self a 640ADVenture and a Tall S KTM950 too, but they will never be able to do what the BMW does, then again the BMW will never be able to do what the KTM's can do, even if for a long time we try really hard to make it happend.

I view motorcycles as i do bicycles, you need to one of each for the different porpuse and aplication

Hi Patineto

Wow,370000 Miles on your Beamer is a word, respect! Did you do your trips only in the states ? You are sure at the "advrider.com" ...:daumen:
The engine and the whole final drive are the original but I have replace 4 transitions (One do to broken cases, three do to internal damage) about 7 clutches, endless tyres and brake pads, I still have the original wheels, but I have lace some of my own and use also cast wheels so they don't get used as much..

The poor thing is falling apart (is being falling apart for years) but still runs and never ever, not even ones let me stranded and make me walk home and to me that is very important.

I don't have much money so my trips are usually short (but many), I have only being to Mejico, canada and alaska, I always run out of money before I can get any farder.

ps: I know of at least two GS what cross the half a million mark (No idea how much work on them) and I'm sure the Rs and RT must have many more examples, In my case I'm impress not for the milliage but because of the Trashing my poor bike is expose day in and day out..
You are sure at the "advrider.com" ...:daumen:

I'm Member number 700 or so on ADVrider, but this days that site does not really have anything new to say, since is mostly full of Possers that only talk about bikes but don't really ride them that much. (90% of the members at least but not all of them for sure)

A few year back was really amazing, full of spirit, inspiration, great ideas and awesome trips, today is like a Highschool prom night full of clicks and little groups, kind of boring if you ask me.

yup yup, for the katoom owners, its very drastical to see the difference between how the advrider orange crush ninefiddy people in vast majority use their bikes and have them setup. over here, we got a bunch of posers aswell, but at least amongst the nine fiddy riders, they are not the majority.
i am happy we dont have too many boejangles seats 1yard windscreen 950s round here ;)

The seats from James are great, but I really dislike how everybody want to make every freaking motorcycle into a "Goldwing" with the stupid windscreen the ten different radio, GPS's and whatever they can connect to it.

I only need Lights, many lights, decent wind protection and close to perfect mechanical performance

I guess you and me and a few other coe from the bicycle side, were many other motorcyclist come from the cars were comfort and that "BUble" feeling is imperative

me I like them simple, reliable and trash, so I can keep trashing them even more until is nothing left to trash.

i am wondering what bmw's do what ktms cant do? i have yet to drive a decent bike from the recent bmw products.
the hp2 is an overpriced joke for posers, sure it works well, but not as good as the 950SE, plus it lacks the crashability of the SE.
regarding boejangles seats, i find it to be overpriced, i have a seat modified by sommer ktm, it works great as its shaped after the rally seat. to me it has to be a good bike/rider interface and not comfy, although i did 14 hour days on the bike without a problem.

Hi Patineto
I think your Frontwheel has not much groundcontact on your way home, righ t? What about a sidecar ? :D
In the TV news was a bad Forestfire in the LA Hills,I hope it´s not near to you.

Greetings from an asscold Germany :winken:

yeap for sure the Mass is located to the rear of the bike, but I makes for excellent willies in the san francisco streets.

for serius is No big deal.
What about a sidecar ?
I somehow making one, well I have the bike for it and slowly i'm collecting all i need, but will never be as agile or fun as a two wheel bike, remember we can "Lane split" (go in between cars in california) and a sidecar will make you as slow as a car, No bueno.
:D
