Hi, I bought several Cree XR-E Q5 version on www.dealextreme.com, I too have several P4 version, yesterday I recived the Q5 versions and I wanted compare both versions, how was my surprise when I see that the P4 version have more white the light than Q5 version....Ahhhhhhhhhggggggggg moreover, a first sight seem that the "quantity" of light are equal..... I don't know if this are normal or well in dealextreme we to pull sb's leg....

Anyone have experience with the Q5 model and think equal that me??

Ps. I trying do some photos of both light leds for that you could see the "differences"...

No I don't, but there is a bunch of people in the US, who are satisfied with it. . For instance lightbug says: "Installed mine into a MXDL flashlight, the Q5 is significantly brighter than the stock CREE p4. Good job DX."

Perhaps you should measure the light rather than judging by eye ? 20% of improvement is not too easy to see...

RedmEx, Hi, I too don't could do the photos of both leds, but sincerely I think that don't have a 20% of difference, at least with my Q5, I think...

woasnix....when I do the comparison I will see if are bullshit or not..:D

yellow_ö The colour think are the same of P4 version....(WG)

Maybe he Trick you, could be a Q1 or something like that.

P4 is Around 80 - 88 Lumen
Q5 is around 107 - 114 Lumen

P4 driven with 470ma is as bright as a Q5@350ma

Hi, again, well here is the fotos how we could see, the Q5 led have the light more yellow than the P4.

Seems to be a different color bin - can you compare these leds at lower current (e.g. 350mA) and without additional optic used?

Hi, hummmmmmmmm, yes, this are different colour bin, I think that the P4 are WC (Water close :D....White color  ) and Q5 WG (Cool white).

I have a constant current to 350-500-700-1000 ma, but to solder the wires are a little complicate already are very small, and I think that I don't test, sorry :(

There is a thread at the CPF dealing with the same subject:

http://candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=171823

My personal conclusion is: You better BELIEVE, that the new Q5 is brighter than bothering about the fact that you can't tell the difference by eye. But maybe at night you feel the difference because you can spot more distant objects.

My practical procedure is a I do it with computers: I buy the Q2, where the ratio: newest technology/price is at it's best (for me).

genau was mich immer wundert ...

There is no possibility to determine which bin you have by only looking at the LED. So it is really possible, that DX is selling much lower bins as a Q5.
Who can check it?

Hi

i have got a sample of one of our Industrialelectonicsupplier. The type is SSC P4: W42182 1H with production code 47/07 witch is very new i think. The datasheet specs of this type is 5350°K, 91-154lm @350mA. However this LED works great on my pimped old Sigma Power LED. The lightquality is much more better than the Luxeon III witch was original built in.

ist only possible to say "P" or "Q",
Qs have 4 bond wires

Dann kann ich dazu sagen, dass zumindest meine MX Power mit den 3 Crees mit entsprechenden Q bins bestückt ist, es sind 4 Kabel sichtbar. Das ist doch immerhin schon etwas.

Telling from what I understood from CPF it is not that simple. 4 wired stands for newer production, but the binning is made according to the measurements after the production. Of course newer production has a higher yield of higher binnings, but there will still be P4s produced with 4 wires because of variations is production quality.

So if you want to make sure that you receive Q5 or R2 binnings, don't buy from asians third source sellers, buy from official resellers like cutter ....

Thats the point, the selection of the binning is being made after production. And all LED come from the same productionprocess. So you really can't distinguish wether it's a P4 or a Q5 or a R2. The only way is going to someone who has an Ulbricht Sphere and measure the LED.

I still follow comparisons of different cree emitters from different suppliers and I just found a very interesting one, where the admin of the Australian shop cutter comments himself on the pictures:

http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=371973&page=2

Bottomline to me is, that it is likely, if you buy from a Chinese manufacturer a flashlight or DIY parts that you cannot trust the labelling. You can only trust authorised distributors like cutter in Australia or Vossloh und Schwabe in Germany

Are there any experiences yet from the R2 cutter groupbuy ?

Hi, thanks for the info, already have seen that comparison, the R2 give a better light than the Q5 led.
