Helius FR Clearance Problems

Hi all,

Sorry for my english post i do not speak German i'm afraid,

Received my new trailored Helius FR and have it all built up but i've discovered what i think is a BIG problem!

The rear tyre is hitting the seattube at full compression!

I did the test by removing all air from the shock and compressing the suspension fully and the rear tyre jams (See pictures) As it says to do in the Nicolai Tech Sheet.

Has anyone else with a small seat tube/medium top tube experienced this?

I'm running Schwalbe big betty 2.4's and a fox RP23 200x57mm.

The shock is in the bottom hole mount.

Thanks for any help, i really need to resolve this as i love the geometry its perfect and it rides awesome! I've emailed Karl @ Nicolai but just wondered if anyone else had experienced this problem?

(Full pics of the build in the Helius Gallery)

Best Regards,

Derek

My brain doesn´t want to talk english anymore...

Well, there is the black plate in your last pic. Move that a little bit to the rear and your problem is solved. But it will change the angles as well.

Yes i thought about that but it wont line up properly to allow 3 bolts to go thru only 2 which i'm unsure if it would be safe.

Thanks for the idea tho!

Hello Derekr.

All air-shocks must mount in the top Hole.
The hole below is only for use with spring-shocks.

Reed the techsheet´s from nicolai.

Allthough i think your RP23 has only 50" upstroke.

As far as im aware, top hole for 50mm stroke - bottom for 57mm stroke.

My RP23 is a 57mm stroke shock.

The clearance is much worse in the top hole.

oh sorry i´ve seen. i´m so bad in geometry. Your Right.

somtime it is possible that the tire hit the seat-tube. I think the 2.4 big betty build to high for the Helius FR.
At this time i must check also, because i´ve mount a 2.4 rubber queen.

No worries, would be interested to see if your clearance is ok?

My friends medium Helius FR has around 12mm clearance with a 2.5" downhill tyre.

Hi there, i have the same problem with my 2004 helius st. But when i move back the front shock mount, i have no sag anymore. And when i ride/jump/drop the bike it has a very hard suspension.

When i move the mounts forward, the sag is perfect, the suspension is perfect but when i jump and i go through all my travel the tire hits the seattube.

What am i doing wrong? I weigh about 95kg, and run a 500 lbs spring on my shock.

First picture is in old/hard setup. Second picture the nice/plush setup.

You can answer me in german, i can understand it well, but can't type it that good :)

The picture's show a setup in the highest eye of the rocker, but i already lowered it, bit it still hits the seattube.
