Hey Guy, my groovy brothers,
It's been a while since my last posts, and I just needed to reach out and touch. You can bet I'm dreaming of next summer.
So here a little catch up on some of what's been up around here. Some of you know that I've been riding fixie, and I hear that some of you are too. That rocks!!! It pretty much took the summer to get use to the descending and figure out my gearing, 38 to 18 ( 16 for the road and flater trails ), but its working. And I have been flying the Color of the ESK Jersey to just rides and a couple events. I love explaining "Seid Breit" to fellow riders and everyone just digs seeing this jersey.
But here's the story on the events that have pasted between the end of September and now. In September I rode the Tour of the White Mountains. This is a 66 mile mostly single track ride in the the cooler and more foresty regions of Arizona. The elevation is almost 6000 feet, hmmm, that's about 1800 meters or so, and just beautiful. A great escape from the heat of Tucson. And they even have a single speed catagory. And I rode it fixie. I had a great ride. It's a good ride for me since there's alot of climbing (6600) and the descending was not so steep that the free riders, those with freewheels, could get to far away. And would you believe that I finished 8th overall and first singlespeeder. After which I immediately had a very larger smoked porter. Good brew.
And then yesterday. Yesterday was the Soul Ride. 100 miles with 12200 feet of climbing ( we will call that 3700 meters, hey I'm doing this off the top of my head. Totall brutal ride. The thing about fixed gear riding is after a 20 km climb a descent of 16 at high speed spinning is not very desired. Turning my legs at 140 to 160 rpm! Woof! Anyhow my ride rocked. I was definitly passed by other riders on the downhill, but man on the ups I was flying, well, maybe make that cranking. As I rode by two guys that had flown past me on a downhill a few moments before they stopped talking and in unision muttered " Whoa." And so it went. I ended up 5th overall, Tinker Juaruez took first, and second singlespeed. All on a fixed gear.
Aimee said that when I finished I was glowing but by 7:30 in the evening the glow was all done as the sh*t hit. I'm feeling better but I'll take it easy today.
I'll post some pictures soon.
and Love
