Hallo,

Velocity (beneath the Novotel hotel, out of town) rents out decent quality, well maintained mountain bikes cheaply. They also have a selection of Giant mountain (and road) bikes for sale, supported by accessories. Tam, the owner speaks English but isn’t always there. near the Novotal Hotel and Rim Ping Supermarket in Chang Puak rent decent bikes. call 053-410665 ,015955975 is behind the Novotel - turn left off Chotana immediately before the hotel. Quite a good selection for a small shop and the guy speaks good English and is knowledgeable. This was the place with the s/h roadbikes. (see 'roadbikes' below)
Jackie Cycles (just off the northern flank of the moat, 100m on the left down the Mae Rim road - signage in Thai only) has the best selection of accessories in town, and stocks Gary Fischer and Klein. He doesn’t speak English but gives good discounts. is pretty much where the site says, on Chotana Road, on the left just N of the moat. Not a huge selection and the staff appear somewhat unused to Farangs, having perfected that extraordinary technique of looking through you when you walk in.
Top Gear (Chiang Moi road, parallel to Tapae road) is centrally located and sells high-end gear, such as GPSs, as well as good value Merida bikes. Canadian Tom Matty, the owner, also has arguably the best advice, knowledge and tools in town. Gear is on Chiang Moi as the site says, just after the Thai Military Bank . A very helpful lady who speaks good English. They had some fairly good s/h deals when I looked in, including one bike kitted out for touring complete with rack, panniers (they looked pretty awful) and a bar bag.
Chaithawat Cycles (conveniently located in the old town on the southern end of Prapaklao road) also offers great value on accessories, as well as Challenger bikes and better known brands. billed as the best in Chiang Mai. actually on Ratchaphakinai just S of the Rose Guest House after the temple wall. A small shop but quite a big selection, keen prices and the old chap is very helpful. Mrs Chaitawat doesn't speak much English but does her best.
Cherry Bikes (out of town on the Chiang Rai road) is tricky to find and don’t carry a huge selection of bikes but have some interesting imported accessories.
