HOW-DEE!!!!!!
Hey my groovy brothers,
I suppose I should tell you about life in the Southwestern USA, but, naaw, you don't want to hear that. I will tell you about some riding and the crash test dummy experiment I've been running.
First of all it's getting hot out here. 100 degrees F ( what's that 33 degrees C?) in Tucson so this last weekend I hooked up with some of my buddies and escaped to the northern part of the state. Flagstaff, AZ is about 5 hours north and 6000 plus feet ( Hmmm is that 2000 meters?) above the sea line. I sure wish the US would switch to meteric this is a pain in the butt! Anyhow, It's foresty green and cool. More like 10 C at night and 22 C in the day.
Enough of the envirorment and the weather for the moment. So here's the experiment. My buddy Mark started riding a fixed gear set-up on the trails a few months ago and well he's feeling lonely since everyone else thinks riding trails fixed is nuts ( Ha Ha !) Well, your friend being the gullable type, and easily manipulated to try obviously stupid thing ( except leaping off of ten foot ledges, I am not a freerider, nope don't believe in the freedom thing, nope, I leave that to Cowboys from Texas with there six shitters, weehaw!), well anyhow so I'm riding fixed. Yup, we took this dog to the pound and had him neutered. Now riding fixed on the road is easy, but going down steep rock technical decents that use to be fun, are just hair raising.
It is amazing the fun you can provide other riders while SLOWLY turning pedals downhill. And the really exciting moments happen when your rear wheel is popping up in the air on the steep down slopes. I do believe that at moments like this conversion to faith is eminent. If you have a single speed and you have not tried this give it a spin ( Ha!)
Phatty, asked me to cook up some images to promote the SSWC in Germany. I do believe we'll have a group coming out from AZ to join you. I am so psyched to visit you all.
Keep it focused, Keep it real
