HOW-DEE!!!!!!

Hey my groovy brothers,

I suppose I should tell you about life in the Southwestern USA, but, naaw, you don't want to hear that. I will tell you about some riding and the crash test dummy experiment I've been running.

First of all it's getting hot out here. 100 degrees F ( what's that 33 degrees C?) in Tucson so this last weekend I hooked up with some of my buddies and escaped to the northern part of the state. Flagstaff, AZ is about 5 hours north and 6000 plus feet ( Hmmm is that 2000 meters?) above the sea line. I sure wish the US would switch to meteric this is a pain in the butt! Anyhow, It's foresty green and cool. More like 10 C at night and 22 C in the day.

Enough of the envirorment and the weather for the moment. So here's the experiment. My buddy Mark started riding a fixed gear set-up on the trails a few months ago and well he's feeling lonely since everyone else thinks riding trails fixed is nuts ( Ha Ha !) Well, your friend being the gullable type, and easily manipulated to try obviously stupid thing ( except leaping off of ten foot ledges, I am not a freerider, nope don't believe in the freedom thing, nope, I leave that to Cowboys from Texas with there six shitters, weehaw!), well anyhow so I'm riding fixed. Yup, we took this dog to the pound and had him neutered. Now riding fixed on the road is easy, but going down steep rock technical decents that use to be fun, are just hair raising. It is amazing the fun you can provide other riders while SLOWLY turning pedals downhill. And the really exciting moments happen when your rear wheel is popping up in the air on the steep down slopes. I do believe that at moments like this conversion to faith is eminent. If you have a single speed and you have not tried this give it a spin ( Ha!)

Phatty, asked me to cook up some images to promote the SSWC in Germany. I do believe we'll have a group coming out from AZ to join you. I am so psyched to visit you all.

Keep it focused, Keep it real

Love and Tequilla

Rudy .. sounds like serious fun :daumen:

We would certainly enjoy to see pictures of your adventures, especially those taking place in "proper" Mountainbike environments like the one you described above.

Gregor.

What ever these Northshore-Riders do on their bike-sofas is a piece of cake compared to you Rudy - fixed in the Arizona Mountains - that is da real shiiiiiiit!

love, peace and Tequilla

it's realy strange, but very cool, to read stories from the other side of the ocean. maybe, some pics of you, the action and the landscape let me comprehend more ;)

Oi!!! my happy brothers,

Well have some pictures soon.

I forgot to tell you that my favorite post-ride cocktail is Tequilla and Advil.

Here's to beating on concrete with hammers.

Hi Rudy,

always great to get some crazy funny shit from you. Riding a fixed gear off road is insane. I 've ridden an old fixed gear an the road for many years (its a beautiful track bike called Paris-Sport, made in New Jersey in the early 70s) and I know what you are talking about. On the road, if you go fast downhill until you spin out you have a stopping distance like an 18 wheeler. If you lose your rhythm your legs get kicked up in a way that I imagine feels similar to stepping on land mines. On the road that might be ok, in the dirt it must be pure madness. Less demented brains will want to ask WHAT IS THE BLODDY POINT? WHILE YOU'RE AT IT WHY DONT YOU NUTCAKES TAKE THE TYRES OFF THE RIMS AND THE SADDLES OFF THE SEATPOSTS, THAT WILL MAKE IT EVEN BETTER FOR YOU SINCE YOU ENJOY MAKING THINGS DIFFICULT FOR YOURSELFES.

The only answer is: Hey, you would'nt understand it even if you tried it and anyway, it's nothing like a rocky downhill on a unicycle.

so long,

And what is the bloody benefit of that combination ...?
A Mexican Headache???

Here is to tutu-wearing-fixed-gear-off-road riders!

Ah, the Mexican Headache.

Nope that only happens if you follow the Tequilla and Advil mix with to much Mexican beer.

I do find that Tequilla and Advil do releave the pain and soreness of a body slam.

For the moment I will keep my saddle and tires but you do have me thinking. I must admit that the front tire wheelies on steep downhill really get the adrenaline pumping. I don't think that fixed gearing on trails is illegal but the drugged-up feel might make it so.

:bier: Here's to beer in you cheerios

bon appetite....

Aus gegebenem Anlass!

Neues von Rudy:

I finish first in the singlespeed class in the Tour of the White Mountains while riding a fixed gear. This is a sixty-six mile romp through wood and dale in central AZ. And I was proudly wearing my ESK jersey. Seid Breit Baby!

I haven't seen any photos but as soon as I get them they'll be in your hands.
