maxxis minion r

Laut weightweenies wiegt z.b. n 2.35er High Roller in 42ST 1242g.

The only Minion version you need to worry about is the 40a (that is the "Slow Reezay" or "SR" compound) You also have to get the DH 2.5 size because it is double ply. Yes it is somewhat heavy. The single ply 40a is amazing for grip and lighter but the sidewalls are too thin and you will pinch flat all of the time. Any other Maxxis compound, even the 42a "Super Tacky" is not worth it. The 40a SR compound is the best tire out there at the moment, even better than the Michelin. The Try All Sticky tire might be a good. I am ordering one tomorrow to replace my worn out Minion so we will see...

@planetary1:
Keep us up to date with the try all sticky. :)

mal wieder sehr interessant Aramis..

The 2.35 version is also available in dual ply, isn't it? I think the 2.5 isn't really neccessary. In combination with a wide rim the 2.35 is just fine.
The tryall tyres have amazing grip what I've heard so far, they wear even faster than the maxxis tyres, but the sidewalls are not as strong as the michelin ones e.g.

I am looking at my 2004 Maxxis catalog and I see that the Minion 40a is available in 2.35 but only single ply. If you want double ply then you have to get either the 2.5 or the 2.7. I currently have the 2.5 on my bike and it is not all that wide, it is more like a 2.35 and the 2.7 is more like 2.5 so don't worry about it not fitting. I just noticed that the catalog doesn't have weight specifications...

The Minion single ply 40a 2.35 would make a perfect front tire though. I have the single ply Larson TT 2.35 in 40a for the front and it is perfect, but again, the size is a bit of an overstatement. It is exactly the same width as the Michelin Hot-S 2.1.

Just so you know, I do live in Germany but until my German is better I will have to occasionally post in English...sorry...

maybe I'm trying a 2.35 maxxis single ply for the front - I still have two minions 42ST...But they're actually pretty heavy, about 800g. I currently ride a HOTS 2.1 on a DX32. But I had to cut off the side knobs 'cause the tyre didn't fit through the fork legs.. so I'm unsure if the maxxis will fit as well.
As for the rear, a minion 2.35 40a dual ply will propably be my next tyre. Still have to ride my hots 2.5 until it's worn down.

Minion DH R 2.35 60DW wire DPC SR/40a 1160g.

Yeah, it is a very heavy tire but I can say that my riding really improved as soon as I put that tire on simply because it grips to all surfaces and that fact gave me so much more confidence. The only problem is that now I can't use other tires anymore.

Marko, that picture of you gapping between the posts is insane. Where did you take off from?
