Moving to Dresden: What Type of Riding?

Morgen!

After some exploring on my xc-rad and hopefully fixing a bug at the front end of my 'Fat Tire bike', I think I will hit some of the spots I found that should be a lot of fun with FT...

Martn,

Sorry, I was out all day today and missed your message. I might do tomorrow, but that's a "maybe". I haven't ridden in a couple weekends and I can't eat a Doner without biking first.

no need to excuse, i was pretty busy today anyway. i'll be in bohemia camping from tomorrow till sunday, likely coming back with a massive hangover, but i'm sure we'll find some time next week

13.9. were planning to ride in the Zittauer - starting early from Leipzig / Dresden and back late in the evening... 60km 1800hm +/- with as much singletrack as possible.

If the weather is good this weekend, we'll be going somewhere to the Schweiz, maybe. It might end up being a lot of road riding, but we'll figure it out.

CX,

I was going to pm you at mtbr, but you don't have it enabled there. You'll get one soon.

I'll definitely look into it. Unfortunately due to my schedule I can't predict that far ahead. I have more German classes coming soon, so I may not be able to do it. Also look out for my coverage of Eurobike.

Hallo!

Aber da sollte schon was gehen...

maybe also this thread need a bit of freshness flown into it. As it is about-18 degrees outside, we have freshness enough..... But better would be to start planning a blistering tour in DD area? :D

happy trails,
Gabby

how about this weekend? i have no idea, how rideable the trails are, but if i don't go cross country skiing (not sure, maybe...) i'd sure like to ride my bike.

Sounds good. I guess most of the trails are in a not so well rideable condition, but it's just a guess. I am also new in Dresden, and all I have here bikewise for now is my CX bike. So I'd suggest some gravel roads, barely frequented paved roads or veeery easy trails. If that's also fine with you, we could meet up anytime this weekend. Temperatures are expected to be close to 0°C, which will feel like 20°C after those cold days ;-)

I think I will check the heide tomorrow, with my fat tire bike, just to check the condition of the trails. I will post something here after that, like; is it useful to make a tour and if I will join for this snow-ride...? But I definitely am in favor of having some tour in less white conditions as well!

happy trails,
G

I made a small tour in the heide today, and i have to say; it was not that easy. The snow (layer of about 15 cm) is quite soft (like powder snow) and hard to cycle in. Maybe also because I was with the FT (fat tire) bike. Still good conditions to have some fun...

but, making an tour of about 3h is quite a task in these conditions. When you have some speed is quite okay to maintain a straight line. However cornering is again quite hard. Its a bit like continuously riding in soft sand.
Will anyone still go tomorrow? - I am sorry to say so, but maybe another time is a better choice.
Unless you are into just play-biking a bit in the snow...?

Gabby

=> xc skiing is the way to go in the D heide now!

yeah, i was riding in the heide yesterday and it was... i don't know... exhausting. the gravel roads rideable, but boring as always, ^^
on the small trails it was hard to ride (either deep powder or a slim trampled track) unless there was enough grade to keep some speed. we had to push alot and i wished i had a surly pugsley or at least an endomoprh tire on the front.

so i decided to go cross country skiing (the first time this winter... finally!) today and that was quite nice. and i won't be able to move my arms and legs tomorrow... i guess.

Look for places where nobody has been before (in this snow) - the loose snow lets the wheel sink to the frozen ground and there is traction and no wiggling around on narrow tracks of xc skiers...RubberQueen 2.4 does her job.
