Some cool news for owners of our RocketMAX and Rocket bikes - both existing and prospective. As of this week, the RocketMAX is certified for use with 160mm forks (up from 150mm) and the Rocket is certified for use with forks up to 170mm travel (up from 160mm).
Not only does that mean you now have more options on how to set up your new RocketMAX or Rocket, if you are an existing owner of either of these bikes it applies to them too. Warranty unaffected, it's all been through the lab tests using current production frames and you are good to go should you so wish.
When we first released the Rocket (...) made the decision to certify the bike at considerably beyond the minimum requirements of ISO4210 (the international safety standard) with 150mm forks to make sure all was well.
However, (...) Chay and Swinny on the race team (...) asked to run 170mm. After a look at the calcs I gave them the go ahead. (...) As the lads were having no trouble on this during the season, I decided to swap my beloved X Fusion MCQueen HLR (which are 140mm) for my old Pike 160mm on my RocketMAX. In Scotland and in the mountains this summer it's been great, so I was keen to have another look at both bikes for extending it to everyone.
(...) so I sent a medium production Rocket and XL RocketMAX off to the test lab for testing to above the ISO4210 requirements for frontal impact and fatigue (the load the affects the forks) with 170mm 27.5" forks on the Rocket and 160mm 29er forks on the RocketMAX. They both passed with flying colours, so it's now official.
(...)Hopefully this is a nice little bonus for Rocket and RocketMAX owners. I'm afraid Flare and FlareMAX owners can't increase the forks on their bikes, before you ask. The lighter weight down tubes and top tubes on those frames mean we're very happy where they are.
