I wanted to try out the Click valves and update my tubeless inflation system at the same time to support an XC, a gravel and commuter bike:
I needed a decent quality two-stage (HV/HP) floor pump with a large two-stage pressure gauge that had clear gradations for up to 40 psi with overall 160psi reading/capability. I needed the HP facility to finish pumping the air to a separate reservoir tank. The tank needed flexibility to be converted to a Clik valve input connection.
To meet these criteria, I bought a Giant Control Tower 2 and an Airshot (
Schwalbe Tubeless Tire Booster)
For the Clik valve conversion I bought the
Schwalbe licensed valves, right angle pump head and an adapter head (the
Schwalbe and
SKS version of the pump head is one piece unlike the Clikvalve version that has integrated the removable adapter head).
When replacing the Presta valves on the 6 rims one Clik valve would not fully screw into an existing valve stem. It was a cheap aluminum alloy stem so I replaced them with a pair of
DT Swiss I already had used. I tested the Giant “Autohead II” pump head with the Clik adapter and it easily inflated a tire (in both HV/HP modes) and the gauge was clearly showing the pressure in the tire.
I then replaced the Giant pump head with the Clik unit, removed the Presta integrated valve/stem from the Airshot and installed a brass Presta stem complete with screwed in Clik valve. I made the connections, pumped the tank up to 160psi, opened the tap and the tire inflated on the rim with ease (
Maxxis Forecaster V2 2.4).
Satisfied that this was a good working system I rummaged around and “found” a pair of Zefal rubber CO2 mounts and two elasticated Velcro straps that I then used to fix the tank to the pump giving both stability and ease of access.
For anyone wondering why I went with a two-part system I have found that some integrated pumps do not have sufficient volume for the built-in tank, take too many pumps to inflate when not using the integrated tank and do not have pressure gauges that clearly show/read the pressures at low volume (which is what is needed for XC/gravel wide tires). Am very satisfied with the design, performance and quality of both the Giant Control Tower 2 floor pump and the Airshot.
For away from home CO2 inflation, I use a BriskMore branded head and fitted the Clik adapter.
