I think you are being a bit harsh .... when Stuntzi posted on MTBR asking for suggestions on how to get from LA to Sedona his goal what to avoid riding on city streets as much as possible. So I suggested heading south along the beach on the bike paths (which he did) then to the SART to avoid the nasty Los Angeles traffic and then getting up into the Santa Anas.
Using SART to Coal Canyon meant he did not have to deal with even one car the whole way (kind of amazing to do in Los Angeles if you think about it). Trust me, Stunzi knew about the other stuff in the Santa Anas but unfortunately he had problems with his MiFi (it can not be a live tour without pictures) and the guy who Offered To help him was in Temecula. So unfortunately he had to cut his tour of the Santa Anas really short (he only rode Holy Jim, but he had San Juan trail on his original plan) I agree, he could have spent a whole week riding all the stuff in the Santa Anas, but then we wouldn't have any live reports here and I think that's kind of the point of this sub-forum : ) So he took a car over Ortega Highway to get to Temecula quickly.
Then the whole PCT thing ... there's absolutely no logical reason mountain bikers Should not ride that trail ... heck he even got caught by a ranger I have to say that's ballsy! Here in SoCal mountain bikers poach trails every once in a while, or rides at night where we are not allowed, etc. or rides private property, etc. etc. I'm glad Stunzi got to taste some of our awesome "forbidden fruit" so to speak ; )
Hopefully he gets down to Santa Barbara quickly I can't wait to see his next set of pics and his report. I am amazed by Stunzi's determination, self-confidence, navigation skills I can't believe he rode his bike all the way around the Los Angeles basin...that is an amazing accomplishment for someone who has never navigated any of these trails before.
