Transition Sentinel - Sammelthread

Hallo miteinander,

Mein deutsch ist Leder etwas rostig, english is easier, I love this bike, but it takes a bit to get used to coming from a carbon Patrol with coil shock. The Patrol was certainly more "playfull". The Sentinel is super fast on mid-grade descents and with the coil rides like on rails. It really hugs the ground. So far, so good. The shock is pricey, approx. CAN-$2,000 with shipping and tax, but it made all the difference for me. I have it set up for climbing and DH. First time on an Eagle drive train, works as promised. Changed the brakes to Hope brakes, because I simply love them and have them on all my bikes. The reduced fork offset is very noticeable and really improves cornering.

Pretty happy overall, but also loved the Patrol.

What’s your take on the rear suspension air vs. coil and overall performance/ midstroke support? Is that 11-6 tuned for the sentinel? Keep reading different opinions about a more difficult shock setup. Never rode one myself though.

Makes all the difference to me. Been on coil since the carbon patrol and loving it. Better traction, easier climbing, more fun on the dh. I'd never go back. I realize it's personal preference but for me it is great. Yes, the 11-6 is tuned for the Sentinel and my riding style. When you custom order, you specify what you need/want. On the Patrol I was ok with a fixed coil, climbing was good, but the options of 2 settings is pretty sweet.

Really nice Ride! How much stroke has the shock, 60 or the 57,5 mm? i also want to try a coil shock on the sentinel but im waiting for the Mrp Hazzard ;-)

Hallo,

No, I haven't ridden the Sentinel much with the DPX2. Only a few rides, but enough to see the difference and to know I love the coil. I think so much is personal preference and riding area. I'm a full-time trail planner, designer, developer and also run MTB trail building crews. So I get to ride all over BC on a wide variety of trails. Just like my home trails near Williams Lake, I often ride loose, steep trails. I feel the coil gives me much better traction on the climbs and I stick to the ground on the DH. Direct comparison to the DPX2 I am not loosing out on climbing at all, I would say it is better climbing for my style. On the downhill I'm loosing some of the playfulness of the air shock. Popping off every little root and rock is gone, but I think the 11-6 will let me dial that in a bit better with time. There is so much debate around Air versus Coil now and I see more and more coil set-ups out there. I hate recommending coil over air, as I think it is so personal. I wanted to try the coil on the Sentinel, as I had one on my Patrol for the last 1 1/2 years and absolutely loved it. I'm lucky, as I work in the bike industry, I can justify buying a $2,000 shock for an already expensive bike. Not sure if I would experiment with this as a weekend rider. I also think it is worthwhile adding that coil shocks need less servicing. I don't need to play with setting it up after flying with my bike and they just feel consistent all the time.

And then at Pinkbike yesterday the discussion continues:

Moin zusammen,

@Diesti Auf welchen Strecken bewegst Du Dein Sentinel denn vorwiegend?
