Kommt Zeit, kommt Projekt
"I bought the Ultimate from the original owner off of the MTBR Classifieds waaay back before the forums even existed as they do now. Before MTBR was sold to Consumer Review. The classifieds were free at the time and you'd just have to refresh the page every hour or so for a whole new list of bikes (of all sorts).
This came up as a partially complete bike for XXXUSD (wollt Ihr besser nicht wissen

). The owner had all the original paperwork including the bill of sale from Cambria Bicycle Outfitters in Cambria. It detailed the purchase price and original parts build for it.
As the story goes, the original owner was hanging out at the newly opened Cambria Bicycle Outfitters looking for a new mountain bike to buy. In walks John Parker. They all get to talking and Parker is telling the original owner about this new elevated chain stay bike they're working on called the Ultimate. He drew a sketch of the bike on a napkin and the guy put in an order right there on the spot, sight unseen.
Along the way, it developed the seat binder crack, typical of Yeti's from that time. He had it welded (with what looked like a washer) to stop the split from going further and patch painted it. I never had an issue with it. I built the bike up and rode it for a time, then tore it back down and it sat for a number of years while I worked on getting parts for a full correct build. After that, I wasn't really happy with the way it felt and came to terms that it was a size bigger than I should be riding. Super cool California built Yeti though."

Michael
