To write the soundtrack, I used a program called Acid. It allows you to take samples of real instruments and tweak them according to root note, tempo, and structure.
In the process of choosing and creating samples, I decided that I wanted to develop a theme in the music. Since mountain bike street riding (jibbing) was starting to develop a culture of it's own, I chose a theme which reflected the formative years of urban street culture, the 60's and 70's.
As it turns out, the sounds being developed and pioneered by artists during that time period formed the foundation of urban street culture today...Hip Hop.
Scratching, break dancing, and MCing all had their roots firmly planted in the funk and soul that was being played on the streets of the Eastern cities during the 60's and 70's.
And while I didn't directly sample artists from that time period, I chose sounds that would reflect the culture and mood of the time.
The soundtrack for JIB 2 will again reflect a parallel between urban street culture and mountain bike jibbing. As the music of street culture evolved, a new hero
rose...the DJ. Currently, I am in negotiations with some top name DJs to collaborate on the soundtrack for JIB 2.
The soundtrack for JIB 3 will continue with this theme and will feature an MC.
The response to the soundtrack of JIB has been mixed. Most people either love it or hate it. For those who love it, I have requested that PinkBike.com post the three most requested songs from JIB.
I hope you enjoy listening to them as much as I enjoyed writing and remixing them.
