Das Cape Epic 2019 ist geschafft! Annika Langvand und Anna van der Breggen sowie Nino Schurter und Lars Forster gewinnen das berühmteste MTB-Etappenrennen der Welt. Auf der finalen Etappe von Stellenbosch ins Val de Vie siegte bei den Herren das Team Kross-Spur um Sergio Mantecon Gutierrez und Ondrej Cink, während bei den Damen das Duo Langvad/van der Breggen am achten Tag den siebten Sieg einfuhren. In der Gesamtwertung gab es auf dem 70 Kilometer langen Teilstück keine Veränderungen mehr.
Den letzten prestigeträchtigen Etappensieg des Cape Epic 2019 sicherten sich Sergio Mantecon Gutierrez und Ondrej Cink, hauchdünn vor Philip Buys und Matthys Beukes. Nino Schurter und Lars Forster landeten auf Tagesrang 14, doch deren Gesamtsieg geriet zu keiner Zeit in Gefahr. Manuel Fumic und Henrique Avancini verteidigten ebenfalls äußerst souverän ihren zweiten Gesamtrang.
Doch der Reihe nach: Ein letztes Mal fiel heute in der Früh der Startschuss zu einer Etappe des Cape Epic 2019. Und es dauerte wieder einmal nur wenige Augenblicke bis etliche Teams zur Attacke bliesen – es schlug die Stunde der Top-Teams aus der zweiten Reihe, die sich Hoffnungen auf einen Etappensieg machten. Dementsprechend hoch war das Tempo zu Beginn des letzten Teilstücks. Vor allem Kross-Spur (Mantecon/Cink) sowie Pyga Euro Steel (Buys/Beukes) drehten mächtig am Gashahn. Das Duo Mantecon/Cink versuchte im Laufe der Woche immer wieder einen Tagessieg einzufahren, nachdem sie schon früh in der Woche durch einen großen Defekt in der Gesamtwertung aussichtlos zurückfielen. Bislang wurde dieses Unterfangen noch nicht von Erfolg gekrönt, doch am heutigen Tag war das Glück auf Seiten des Spaniers und des Tschechen.

Nachdem Kross-Spur und Pyga Euro Steel der Konkurrenz enteilt waren, machten sie zunächst gemeinsam Tempo an der Spitze und ließen so den Verfolgern keine Chance aufzuschließen. Da sich keiner der beiden Paarungen entscheidend absetzten konnte, musste der Zielsprint die Entscheidung bringen. Die Zeit wird im Ziel immer vom zweiten Fahrer eines Teams genommen: Beukes und Cink hatten die Ziellinie schon überquert, während sich Mantecon und Buys ein äußerst knappes Duell um den Tagessieg lieferten. Der Spanier Mantecon brachte schlussendlich wenige Zentimeter zwischen sich und den Südafrikaner Buys, doch mit dem bloßen Auge war diese Zieleinfahrt nicht mehr wahrzunehmen – das Zielfoto brachte Klarheit: Der erste Tagessieg für Mantecon und Cink! Auf Rang drei finishten Martins Blums und Sebastian Fini (CST Sandd), die damit auch zum ersten Mal in dieser Woche auf dem Podium standen.

In der Gesamtwertung gab es währenddessen keine Veränderungen mehr. Manuel Fumic konnte zwar zu Beginn der Etappe dem hohen Tempodiktat von Kross-Spur und Pyga Euro Steel nicht folgen, doch einerseits konnten die Drittplatzierten Italiener Porro/Ferraro der Spitze auch nicht ganz folgen und andererseits arbeiteten sich Fumic/Avancini mit einem konstanten Tempo im Laufe der Etappe wieder an die Gruppe von Trek Selle San Marco heran, sodass die beiden Italiener am Ende des Tages nur vier Sekunden vor dem Cannondale-Duo das Ziel als Elfte erreichten. Scott-SRAM um Lars Forster und Nino Schurter gingen auf der letzten Etappe nicht mehr voll ins Risiko. Als Tages-14. fuhren sie ungefährdet ihrem Triumph entgegen.

Urs Huber und Simon Stiebjahn (Bulls Heros) zeigten zum Abschluss nochmals eine couragierte Leistung und erreichten direkt hinter ihrem Youngster-Team Martin Frey/Simon Schneller als Achte das Ziel. Damit lagen die Beiden zwar knapp vor den Gesamt-Drittplatzierten von Trek Selle San Marco, doch im Endklassement reichte das dem deutsch-schweizerischen Duo nicht mehr, um aufs Podium zu klettern.
Damen – Langvad/van der Breggen lassen nichts anbrennen
Annika Langvad und Anna van der Breggen haben sich zum Abschluss nochmals den Tages- und somit auch souverän den Gesamtsieg des Cape Epic 2019 gesichert. Das Specialized-Team forcierte schon am ersten Anstieg eine Attacke und konnte sich deutlich von ihren Verfolgerinnen absetzen. Der Vorsprung betrug zeitweise fast zwei Minuten auf Candice Lill und Adelheid Morath. Doch die deutsch-südafrikanische Paarung zeigte Moral, arbeitete sich zurück an die Spitze, doch auf den finalen Kilometern waren die Leaderinnen ein Stück frischer. Im Ziel lagen die ehemalige MTB-Weltmeisterin und die amtierende Straßenweltmeisterin 17 Sekunden vor Morath/Lill.

Adelheid Morath zeigte sich im Ziel äußerst zufrieden mit dem Tages- sowie dem Gesamtergebnis. Das Duo liegt nach acht Tagen souverän auf Gesamtrang zwei – vor Maja Wlozczowska und Ariane Lüthi. Das Kross-Spur Team wurde heute, wie auch in der Gesamtwertung, Dritte. Vor dem Cape Epic trauten einige Experten den Beiden den Sprung aufs oberste Treppchen zu, doch ein Infekt bei der Polin ließ dieses Ziel ins Unerreichbare rücken. Auf Rang vier finishten heute Sabine Spitz und Nadine Rieder, die sich damit auch noch in der Gesamtwertung auf diesen Platz nach vorne schieben konnten.
Aus deutscher Sicht zudem erfreulich ist der Gesamtsieg in der Mixed-Kategorie von Laura und Sebastian Stark. Bei den Masters freuten sich Jose Antonio Hermida mit Ex-Straßenprofi Joaquim Rodriguez über den Gesamterfolg, während bei den Grand Masters MTB-Olympiasieger Bart Brentjens gemeinsam mit dem Brasilianer Abraao Azevedo ganz oben auf dem Treppchen standen.

@Geplagter , der Vergleich mit Pyga und Cannondale hinkt aber schon gewaltig..
Pyga stellte ja keine Bedrohung für den Toursieg dar, mit denen sich zu arrangieren ist für Scott-SRAM was ganz anderes als die Causa Specialized, die ebenfalls auf den Gesamtsieg schielte.
Klar hätte Avancini sich an der Führungsarbeit beteiligen können, aber davon hätte Scott-SRAM wohl mehr gehabt als Cannondale, da Fumic eh schon zumeist bei Avancini hinten dran hing.
So gesehen kann ich sowohl verstehen daß Schurter eine Mitarbeit einforderte als auch daß Avancini diese verweigerte, so daß Scott-SRAM sich dann aus dem Staub machten...
Wo aber ist der Unterschied bzgl. der Führungsarbeit? Mani hatte zu kämpfen und wenn Avancini clever gewesen wäre, hätte er sich an die Spitze gesetzt und ein Tempo angeschlagen, was Mani nicht so sehr geschadet hätte. Das ist ihm aber schon nicht gelungen, wenn die beiden alleine unterwegs waren und stattdessen hat Scott-SRAM wahrscheinlich ein höheres Tempo vorgegeben und Mani damit noch mehr geschadet. Avancini ist ohnehin nicht als Teamplayer aufgetreten. Er hat ja selbst auf der letzten Etappe immer wieder vorne Tempo gemacht und seinen Teamkollegen zurückgelassen. Im Livestream hat Robbie McEwen dieses kontraproduktive Verhalten ständig erwähnt und eigentlich hat Avancini genau das gemacht, was er Schurter vorgeworfen hat: Er sei ein egoistischer Fahrer, der keine Rücksicht auf seinen Teamkollegen nimmt. Das Gegenteil war meiner Meinung nach der Fall. Schurter und Forster waren nur in ganz wenigen Situationen mal mehr als 10 Meter von einander entfernt.
So gesehen kann ich sowohl verstehen daß Schurter eine Mitarbeit einforderte als auch daß Avancini diese verweigerte, so daß Scott-SRAM sich dann aus dem Staub machten...

Okay, das Spielchen mit der "langsamen" Führungsarbeit hätte Avancini durchaus probieren können. Aber darauf hatte er offensichtlich keinen Bock gehabt. Ist auch die Frage wielange sich das Scott-SRAM angeguckt hätte. Vermutlich nur wenige Kilometer..

Schurter wird Avancini vermutlich schon ein wenig gestichelt haben, von wegen so einfach nur herumlutschen geht gar nicht, ab nach vorne mit Dir! Und mit diesem Psychospielchen hat er genau das erreicht was er wollte, Avancini war dann bis lange nach der Zielankunft erbost..
Das mit dem Backup Team hat so kein anderes Team praktiziert und hat mit Team aus Sicht des Rennen und Reglemants leider nichts zu tun. Hilfeleistung ja aber nur im Team und wenn innerhalb der 2 Minuten.
Deshalb um keinen Einfluss zu nehmen müssen die über gebliebene teils hochkarätige Einzelstarter auch später starten.
Das "Lutschen"sehe ich nicht ganz so die einen fahren auf Tageserfolg (Pyga-Eurosteel) die anderen ( Cannondale ) auf Gesamtergebniss da sind die Interessen einer Führungsarbeit entsprechend unterschiedlich und Cannondale hätte den Sieg wenn nur die Ganze Etappe "gelutscht" und dafür nichts getan sicher dem besseren Team überlassen.
Die kennen sich alle taktische Spiele gehören klar dazu wenn da jemand sauer ist muss eine entsprechende Wortwahl gefallen sein.
