Val di Sole ist berühmt-berüchtigt für seine harte Downhillstrecke – wie hart diese wortwörtlich ist, hat Greg Minnaar im Training vor der Qualifikation am eigenen Leibe erfahren müssen. In einer Linkskurve mit heftiger Kompression verliert er die Kontrolle über das Rad, welches in der Folge in die Steine fliegt. Der herumfliegende Rahmen bricht nach dem Sturz beim Einschlag – aber laut unseren Kollegen vor Ort wäre dabei auch ein Stahlrahmen gestorben…
Der Südafrikaner kann sich aber abfangen und kommt anscheinend mit leichten Blessuren davon – mit einem in 45 Minuten fertig präpariertem Ersatzbike fährt er kurze Zeit später auf Rang 2 in der
Qualifikation.
